From the very beginning, we have been passionate about the quality of our trees and plants from our own cultivation. Because we all know that plants create the basis for life on this earth. This makes it all the more important to act responsibly and ensure that these plants grow up healthy and remain healthy in the future.

As a member of the BDB (Association of German Nurseries), we are therefore committed to a high-quality product and an intact natural environment on a daily basis. With constant training rhythms, which ensure a dense root system, regular pruning and maintenance of the trees, as well as inspections of the nursery stock by the Chamber of Agriculture, we are able to produce healthy plant quality in the long term. In addition, our constant mechanical weed control ensures that the end customer is significantly relieved after planting.

The constant adaptation of our product range is also important to us in view of future climate change and is a decisive factor for the satisfaction of our customers. After all, we have to decide today which species of trees will be planted as finished trees in the landscape in 10 - 15 years' time.

OUR HISTORY

Quality from
tradition.

Over 53 years have passed since the nursery was founded. Today, we are a strong partner when it comes to quality plants and can access an extensive range of products within a very short time. We rely on state-of-the-art technology as well as well-trained and highly motivated employees.

The tree nursery was founded in 1961 by Rudolf and Linda Marken in Torsholt, near Westerstede. The business, together with a residential building, was built on land that had previously been used for agriculture. In the beginning, the nursery mainly produced ground cover plants. Later, the first conifers were added to the cultivation program. At that time, customers were mainly cemetery gardeners and commercial nurseries. In the following years, further land was acquired and the range of conifers was expanded, and rhododendrons were cultivated in a wide assortment that was common at the time.

In order to better meet the demands of garden centers, landscaping and retail nurseries and to be able to ship plants in the summer, a container storage area was added to the company premises. It gradually replaced the existing bedding plants with ground cover and small conifers.

The customer base grew steadily as a result of the continuous increase in the number and quality of plants.
On July 1, 1999, the company was handed over to the 2nd generation, to the son Jens Marken.

Right at the beginning, he introduced the cultivation of avenue trees, which today takes place on over 25 ha from 3xv to 6xv in the nursery. As customers showed an increasing interest in specimen trees, the company set itself up with the appropriate machinery and further cultivation.

Due to increasing trade for the completion of orders and business with foreign companies, Marken Pflanzen Export GmbH was founded in 2008 in addition to the existing company.

In the following years, the company was able to further expand its product range and adapt it to the market.
As the company had reached the limits of its loading area, social rooms and storage space for machines and equipment, a new building was started in September 2012. In January 2014, the company moved to the new site, which has a multi-purpose hall with offices and social rooms, as well as a larger loading area.

The nursery now produces a wide range of deciduous and coniferous trees on an area of around 100 hectares in the open and on container sites. In addition to avenue trees in the open and in containers, these include conifers up to a height of 10 m, deciduous and evergreen deciduous trees and topiaries. Rhododendrons ranging in size from 30-40 to 300-350 x 275-300 are cultivated on sandy soil on an area of around 15 hectares.

Gardening and landscaping companies, local authorities, tree nurseries, garden centers and retailers in Germany and abroad confirm time and again that we are passionate about our work and carry it out with expertise.

We are particularly pleased that we have also become a reliable partner for many customers outside Germany. Today, our plants grow beyond the borders of Germany, especially in Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Turkey and the Scandinavian countries.

In recent years, our hardy deciduous and coniferous plants have "grown" another customer base. Today, we supply numerous customers in Eastern Europe, which extends as far as the borders of China.
